About Mexico
Mexico is a Latin American country located in North America with the north of the country bordering the United States, and the south bordering Guatemala and Belize. It is the most heavily populated Spanish-speaking country in the world. Every region in Mexico has distinct culture and languages; Mexico is packed with a large number of opposing identities.
Dancing is a large part Mexican culture in general, and visitors will find that everyone dances. Singing is also popular and restaurants with live music and singing are preferred by Mexicans, regardless of the kind of music being played such as salsa, meringue, mariachi or the Mexican banda.
Mexico has many art galleries and is plastered with beautiful murals, carrying a folk-art tradition that has created some of the world's most famous painters. Mexico's ancient past also created some of the most magnificent architecture ever built, while modern Mexican artists produce ground-breaking pieces of contemporary design.
Acapulco is situated on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Most Acapulco beaches are at the front of the main boulevard "La Costera". This bay area is why Acapulco became famous and its beauty has remained over the years.
Mexico Attractions
In Acapulco, we recommend watching the La Quebrada Cliff Divers perform their extraordinary dives from over 100 feet off the cliffs into the dangerous tides that form in the bottom part of La Quebrada, a canal 21 feet deep. They have been doing this since 1934.
Located opposite the fishing harbour, Zócalo, Acapulco's town square, exposes more local culture than other areas. Acapulco's cathedral is situated in Zócalo, as well as many restaurants from including bistros on the street sides and small street-corner kitchens. Food and craft vendors sell their goods here. Nuestra Senora de la Soledad, Acapulco's most modern church, is situated on the plaza.
Pie de la Cuesta, approximately 6 miles northwest of Acapulco, is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on one side and on the other side by a freshwater lake (Laguna de Cuyoca). The lagoon is extremely serene and calm and worth a look.
Casa de la Cultura is an intriguing cultural centre that hosts an archaeological museum, which features artefacts found in the state of Guerrero. An art gallery exhibits remarkable Ixcateopan works, including paintings and sculptures. The cultural centre also has rooms for art and music classes.
The Acapulco Historical Museum features displays explaining the history and culture of Acapulco from its role in Catholic conversion to its role as a port for trade. There are many interesting things to see here including embroidered silk tapestries, hand-woven baskets, porcelain vases and oriental chests.
