Greece Cruises
A cruise to Greece is special for two reasons. The first is, of course, the experience of the sailing in the Mediterranean itself. Some have called it the most romantic and most historical sea in the world that has helped spread the civilisation of the ancient Egyptians and Greeks and the armies of the great Roman empire. The second reason is that of sailing around the famed Greek Islands (such as Coru, Crete, Cephalonia, Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes) and visiting Katakolon and the historical city of Athens.
About Greece
Greece is located in the eastern Mediterranean, in the southern tip of the Balkan Peninsular. It includes a series of smaller islands, including Rhodes, Kos, Crete, Naxos and part of Cyprus.
Greece is really about the cradle of western civilization. It is the birthplace of philosophy, democracy, drama and the tragedy, mythology and the land of the Gods. It is the home of Plato and Socrates and the Olympics.
Today, Greece is a thriving modern country offering the best of the past and the present. This makes it an ideal destination for those who want it all – history, art, architecture, and a range of outdoor activities.
Greece Attractions
In Athens, the Acropolis “the Sacred Rock” is the most important site of the city and the National Archaeological Museum, which has collected works of Greek art, is another “must see” attraction. With a wonderful view of the Aegean sea and the islands you will enjoy a visit to the Cape Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon, which was well located to worship the God of Sea.
Piraeus is Greece's third largest city in terms of population and is the largest . Life in Piraeus is concentrated on its three ports. Enjoy the harbour with the most modern yachts in Greece, have fresh fish and of course an ouzo of course.
A visit to Greece is incomplete without visiting a few of the Greek Isles. There are in the over 6000 islets and islands, of which only 78 have over 100 inhabitants. Most of the islands are situated in the Aegean and the Ionian Seas and offer visitors a wealth of tranquil bays and coves, glorious white beaches, sunbathing, pure relaxation and stunning natural beauty.
Rhodes is reputed to be one of the most pleasant islands in the world. Rhodes has not lost its popularity over time and includes attractions such as the Knights' Castle, the Street of the Knights, the Palace of the Grand Masters, churches and taverns. The largest water park in Europe is located in the centre of the coastal street.
Greek cuisine has a distinguished flavour and Greeks prefer to share a meal with friends and relatives rather than eating alone. Like other European countries, evening meals tend to be eaten much later in Greece than in counties such as England. The most well-known Greek food products include olive oil, mastic, honey, cheese and of course, the famous drink of Ouzo.
