Cabins are graded differently on each ship & grades depend on the size, facilities and location. The grade of your cabin depends on how much you pay.
Cabin Service
Beverages and snacks are available at most hours through cabin service. Alcoholic drinks are normally limited to the hours when the ship's bars are open. Your room steward will advise you of the services that are offered.
Cancellations
Full cancellation insurance is offered, as cruises (& flights where applicable) must be fully paid before tickets are issued. Cancellations are usually accepted more than 30 days before sailing but full fare is charged if you don't turn up on the day.
Cashless Cruising
It is now the norm to cruise cash-free and settle your account afterwards. An imprint of your credit card is taken, permitting you sign for everything purchased onboard. Accounts can be settled by cash or travellers' cheques before disembarkation.
Casino
A large number of cruise ships have a full casino, typically offering Blackjack, Roulette and slot machines. Cash for casino games cannot be charged to your onboard account. The casino is closed in port due to international customs regulations.
Children
A cruise is excellent for families and provides more quality time than any other type of holiday. Loads of events are tailored to various age groups. See our FAMILIES section for more information.
Clothes
Some cruises may be very formal and others quite casual - it really depends on the cruise. Look in the brochure and the dress code requirements for your cruise will be specified.
Comment Cards
On the last day of the cruise you are usually asked to complete a company 'comment card'. Be honest when you fill out this form as it serves as a means of communication between you and the cruise line.
Communications
To receive a call, simply give the ship name & designated call sign to those concerned before you leave. You can phone from your cabin (charged to your account) although connection may be difficult. Telegrams, telexes and faxes also accepted onboard.
Crew
On a ship carrying a multinational crew you can expect a language split similar to the following: 38% EUROPEAN, 36% North/South American and 26% Asian. All Crew that have contact with passengers will speak English.
Customs Regulations
All countries vary in the allowances granted by their own customs service, and you will be informed aboard your cruise ship of your customs allowance. Duty free goods are no longer available in EU countries.
Check In
Some cruise lines require a minimum of three hours prior to departure for check-in. This seems like a reasonable time period as it gives you plenty of time to get settled and have a look around before you set off.
