If you embark at ground level, the gangway to the ship may be level or inclined, depending on the embarkation deck and/or the tide. Alternatively, you may be required to embark from an upper level of a terminal, using an airport-style loading bridge. |

On larger ships, this is very varied and can include theatre shows, cabaret, comedians, illusionists, puppeteers, quiz nights, cinema - to name but a few. Whichever ship and cruise you choose, you'll find entertainment standards are usually very high. |

Cruise ships refine oil, treat human waste and incinerate garbage. Cruise lines have a unique interest in the marine environment and are not likely to damage it, as compared for instance with oil tankers, although spillage of any kind is regrettable. |

Try to request excursions early as many are limited in number. It is occasionally possible to pre-book excursions when you get your cruise tickets. On rare occasions, excursions may be cancelled if there are insufficient numbers. |

The executive chef plans menus, orders food, organizes staff & arranges meals. Sometimes guest chefs from restaurants ashore offer tastes of 'regional cuisine'. They may also purchase local produce in 'wayside' ports & incorporate them into the menu. |
